His unique "Hearts and Minds" approach to leadership and in-depth knowledge of group dynamics and behavior has earned international recognition as one of today's real-time solution finders. Derrick's life work and mission is to challenge, inspire, educate and mobilize communities and leaders to "Stand Up" and overcome adversity. In July 2017, Derrick suffered two major strokes; since these near fatal strokes, Derrick has been on a miraculous journey of recovery, while delivering a message of resiliency, toughness, courage, and sheer determination to not only recover, but share the message of hope that comes with near death experiences. Derrick has written two books, Courage to Lead and Courage to Follow. He is now writing a third book, The Rebound, based on his life experiences of life and death-physically, emotionally and spiritually.
As a recognized as a thought leader in human development and organizational behavior, Derrick is known for his expertise in leadership and authentic learning models. Derrick's success has come from being able to translate his wealth of knowledge and experience to support the "ethos" of organizations (the fundamental character and spirit of their corporate culture) the underlying sentiments that form the beliefs, customs and practices of any group, society, community, business or organization. His wealth of knowledge and experiences has been distilled into book form. His innovative approach to developing the individual has earned him national and international recognition.
